Can Braces Loosen My Teeth?
No one wants to opt for a dental treatment that could cause teeth to fall out. It sounds like the opposite of a treatment!
Unfortunately, the scary rumors surrounding braces abound, and loose teeth are one of them. The happy news? Braces do not cause tooth loss. There is a chance, however, that your teeth might feel loose during the process.
You might be wondering if this is cause for concern. Thankfully, it is quite the opposite. That loose tooth feeling you might encounter is normal - your teeth will be a little loose.
The Process
Braces move teeth very slowly. In this process, bone breaks down to get out of the way of the moving tooth, and new bone grows to stabilize the tooth.
As the tooth moves, it will feel a little loose. It won’t stay that way. Don’t let the process scare you! Soon your teeth will be stable again, and your smile will thank you.
Assisting the Process
The only things you need to worry about for braces are dental hygiene and following dental directions. If tooth loss were to occur from the process, it would be due to a lack of proper care in those two areas.
Cleaning teeth with braces is tougher. As you struggle, let your dentist know what is the toughest for you. They can make suggestions and give you seasoned advice on what might help you.
