How To Clean Braces?
Wearing braces means extra care for your teeth. Whether you are worried about getting cavities while you’ve got braces or you’re struggling with food getting stuck in your braces, these cleaning tips can help!
A good oral cleaning routine is essential to avoid cavities, bacteria, white spots around brackets, and gum irritation. While the usual dental habits like brushing and flossing are a great start, here are some specific tips that can help you specialize your routine.
For Brushing
For the best results, choose a soft-bristled electric or manual toothbrush with a smaller head and varying bristle lengths and widths. This will help you clean the crevices and hard-to-reach pockets that braces create. In addition, you can also use an interdental brush. Interdental brushes are shaped like a mascara wand and have small bristles that can clean underneath wires and around brackets.
Each morning and night, start your brushing routine by rinsing your mouth to dislodge food particles. After you rinse, brush your teeth thoroughly for at least two minutes. Make sure not to brush too hard so you don’t damage your gums or braces.
For Flossing
Flossing prevents bacteria from building up and developing into cavities. With braces, flossing is easier when using a floss threader. With the help of this small tool, you can thread the floss under your wires and between your teeth. Some people also use a water flosser to ensure effective bacteria and plaque removal.
